The Psychiatric Rehabilitation counselor works to assist individuals with mental illness to reach a higher level of independence. Services provided are individualized and based upon a detailed needs assessment and treatment plan for each client.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Working with children, adults, and families with a mental health diagnosis.
- Meeting PRP clients on-site, within the home, and in the community.
- Providing support with accessing and coordinating benefits, services, and community-based resources.
- Assisting PRP clients with learning and maintaining independent living skills (i.e. self-care skills, organizational skills, time management skills, cooking and nutrition skills, treatment appointment attendance and compliance, communication skills, and money management skills).
- Helping PRP clients to develop healthy coping mechanisms.
- Managing a caseload of clients and providing accurate maintenance of client charts.
- Establishing and maintaining contact with the client’s other treatment providers to improve coordination of care.
- The PRP counselor receives weekly supervision and support.
- Expect to visit with PRP child and adolescent clients at a minimum of 4x per month and adult consumers at a minimum of 6x per month.
Requirements:
- Reliable transportation/clean driving record
- Associate Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree Preferred (Will accept those in process of receiving a bachelor’s degree).
- Concentration in a human service field preferred
- Must have interest/passion working with the mental health population.
- 1 year experience working in the mental health field preferred.
